After reading and reviewing L. A. Ashton’s Valhalla, released from NineStar Press back in December 2018, I practically tripped over my own two readerly feet to get my hands on this author’s full-length novel, Echoes. I preordered it and it sat taunting me in my Kindle until I bit the proverbial bullet and just made time to read. Did I have it to spare on this particular weekend? Nope. Do I care one iota that I lost sleep to read it? Heck to the no.

I’m a bit of a novice when it comes to reading epic tales with intense, mind-twisting plots. (Not to say romance novels can’t have intricate and intriguing plots—because they can and quite often do—but they don’t compare to the amount of brain-power and focus it takes to make sense of a science fiction or fantasy.) That all being said, Imminent Dawn by R. R. Campbell was definitely one of those long, twisty, challenging reads… and, I adored it.

Okay, folks, this week’s review might go a bit off the rails because… hot frickety-frick-frack this is good stuff. I’d seen J. Armand’s book babies floating around the Twitterverse for a while thanks to his involvement in #writeLGBTQ, and I was positively champing at the bit to get my hands on them. So when we connected and scheduled him for a review on my blog several months ago? I was doing a butt-wiggle dance all up in my #amwriting nest. And let me tell ya, my lovely ladies, gents, and NBs… The Immortal Coil did not disappoint.

I’m going to start off this week’s review with a holy shmoly! I went into Frost by Isabelle Adler—and published by NineStar Press—completely blind, which isn’t something I make a habit of, but something I’m learning can be very, very fun.

LGBTQ+ Young Adult Contemporary Romance

Holy flippin’ hamburgers, y’all. My read this week grabbed me by the readerly hair and didn’t let go, even long after I finished reading. (I try to stay ahead on my reviews, so I read this bad boy over a month ago, and I can attest… these characters burrowed into my heart and won’t be going anywhere any time soon!) Portrait of a Stranger by Rose Brookins & Mina Petkova is a gorgeous LGBTQ+ (m/m) romance that straddles the lines between YA and NA with a grace and maturity not out of steps with its characters ages, but written so bloody phenomenal you won’t feel like you’re in the heads of overly young boys.

"Lost in Paradise," by Rachel Lacey

Okay, my lovelies, this week’s read found me lost at sea and riding high on adventure, lust, and some super awesome characterization! Lost in Paradise, by Rachel Lacey, is a kick-butt lesbian contemporary romance that jacks up the heat… both literally and metaphorically.

Okay, my lovelies, this week’s review had me positively devouring every last word. When I sat down to start Valhalla by L.A. Ashton—from NineStar Press—I only intended to read the first chapter. I had a million things on my to-do list and simply wanted to spend a little me time with a good book and a cuppa Joe. However, next thing I knew, I was hitting the end and frantically swiping left in hopes of more words miraculously appearing on my phone.

Contemporary Lesbian Romance

All right, my lovelies, this week’s review was one I couldn’t wait to sink my teeth into after chatting with the author and getting a brief synopsis of the story. I knew it was going to be something I’d drool over and devour, and I was correct in that assumption. Upon finishing Sweat Equity by Monica McCallan, I was left with a happy little sigh that carried me through the rest of my evening. I mean, honestly people, this was one of those feel good books we all need in our lives.
