LGBTQ+ Young Adult Contemporary Romance

Holy flippin’ hamburgers, y’all. My read this week grabbed me by the readerly hair and didn’t let go, even long after I finished reading. (I try to stay ahead on my reviews, so I read this bad boy over a month ago, and I can attest… these characters burrowed into my heart and won’t be going anywhere any time soon!) Portrait of a Stranger by Rose Brookins & Mina Petkova is a gorgeous LGBTQ+ (m/m) romance that straddles the lines between YA and NA with a grace and maturity not out of steps with its characters ages, but written so bloody phenomenal you won’t feel like you’re in the heads of overly young boys.

All right, my lovelies, this week’s review was one I couldn’t wait to sink my teeth into after chatting with the author and getting a brief synopsis of the story. I knew it was going to be something I’d drool over and devour, and I was correct in that assumption. Upon finishing Sweat Equity by Monica McCallan, I was left with a happy little sigh that carried me through the rest of my evening. I mean, honestly people, this was one of those feel good books we all need in our lives.

Okay, my lovelies, I’m super excited about the new direction I’ve decided to take with my reviews! For those of you who haven’t heard, I’ve decided to step away from the general romance focus and instead zero in on LGBTQ+ books of all genres! Which, much to my benefit and yours, opened me to my current review. The Lion Lies Waiting by Glenn Quigley is packed full of LGBTQ+ characters and has an undercurrent of romance, but its main focus is on the stunning historical fantasy world Mr. Quigley created and the many intriguing characters within it.

Carina Press’ The Wolf at Bay, by Charlie Adhara, sucked me in so hard I nearly forgot to pee. Actually, I think I did. I vaguely remember thinking somewhere around the middle that my bladder was angry, but I didn’t pry my butt outta bed until I hit “The End” several hours later. Reading can be a cruel mistress.

"The James Dean Vintage," by Jess Whitecroft

Gay (M/M) Romance

It’s been a hot minute since I last read a “fake boyfriend/fiancé/husband” book, but The James Dean Vintage by Jess Whitecroft scratched an itch for just such a tale I hadn’t even realized was there. This was a fun, well-written read that relied heavily on the backbone of its trope yet still managed to find unique ways to shine as a story all its own.

Contemporary Gay (M/M) Rock Star Romance

Okay, hot dayum, folks, this week’s read was killer. Counterpoint, by Anna Zabo, is book two in the Twisted Wishes miniseries from Carina Press. I haven’t read book one, but you can bet your booty that bad boy is already purchased and sitting in my Kindle to start reading as soon as I’m finished with this review. Because, holy smokes, I fell so flippin’ hard for these characters. I cannot wait to see Ray and Zavier’s story, because I just know it’s gonna be crazy hot and delicious and just… Okay, sorry, I’m totally getting off topic here.
